YOUR WEEKLY MONEY DILEMMA
Ā
Hi, I am embarrassed to write this but I heard you on a podcast recently and it struck a cord, I have been earning a good salary for years - and I feel like I have nothing to show for it.
Ā
I have $15k in savings and thats it.
Ā
I'm 42yrs, single, live alone and earn $165k + super, so I know I should have more than what i have but it never seems to happen.
First of allāthanks for reaching out. I know all too well that itās damn hard to admit when things arenāt quite where we want them to be, especially when youāve been earning a great income... it can make you feel even more guilty about it!
But hereās the thing: Itās 100% possible to turn things around.
I mean it.
You're in your early forties, you can get that train back on-track and start it chugging in the right direction!
One of the things I see all the time with high income earners, is a belief that if I just focus on brining in good money everything else will just, magically, sort itself out.
And so they get to (literal) work and HUSTLE šš½āāļø.
But, because they work really hard, they then tell themselves either:
They don't need to worry about tracking expenses,
or...
that they 'deserve it', because they have been working so hard.
They end up on a work-hard-spend-harder hamster wheel š”.
What most of them forget is that they are working this hard so that they don't have to keep working like this forever...
But, if you aren't putting any of it away to grow for you, you have to stay on the wheel until either you:
a) make changes, or
b) get burnt out and fall unceremoniously off the wheel and land hard on your back-side.
My honest advice to you is an easy one: Choose your hard.
It sounds like you already have š.
If you don't want to feel like this at the end of the year (or any year in the future for that matter!), you're going to need to make this a priority.
I am ex-corporate and thus, I bloody love a project name.
If you too have drunk the corporate project-naming cool-aid, then give it a name that speaks to you and get a project plan together (I have no idea what exactly you do, but if you've had any experience in projects you'll know, there is always a roadmap, sprints, key deliverables and several meetings that could have been emails - you can leave the last bit out imo).
This will be one of the most important projects of your life, so treat it as such.
Invest in it - give it time, attention, effort and resources, so that it works.
If nothing changes, nothing changes.
I know - it's harsh, but fair.
And I would rather be clear with you now so you make shifts...
Rather than telling you everything will be fine, only for you to find yourself 55yrs old and running into a financial advisers office panicked (this is statistically speaking, when people are likely to get advice in Australia), only to find out that you have wasted so much time/opportunity to massively increase your wealth.
And while it's never EVER too late to start - the sooner the better!
I am going to assume we have an issue with two S's...
Slippage & Structure.
Here are two things you can do right now to get some quick wins:
Track where your money is actually going: Before making any big changes, itās crucial to get across your current spending habits.
Take a look at the last few months and see if your spending aligns with what truly matters to you.
Set a savings goal with purpose: Having a clear goal (whether itās building up more money in your emergency fund, investing, or buying property) makes it easier to stay motivated and on track.
Start with a goal that feels exciting but doableāthis will help you stay consistent.
Of course, if this all feels overwhelming or you're not sure where to start, you donāt have to figure it out alone *queue audible sound of relief* š®āšØ.
Thatās exactly why I created The Greenhouseā to help you build solid money habits, stay accountable, and finally start making real progress.
And sure, it's a cost - but past members tell me they are now on track to have hundreds of thousands of dollars more because of what they have put in place from doing it. So I feel really comfortable telling you it is an investment in yourself that will absolutely be worth it.
If you're ready to stop spinning your wheels and take action, I'd love to see you inside āØ.
Doors open next week.
Big love,
Jess
PS. My project name for 2025 is Project Build. Because last year I had high hopes of building more (emails to help you all, guides, programs, systems, processes, better website pages, pretty much everything. lol) and my medical fiasco last year meant I didn't get much of it done, which had me SO f*$@ing frustrated. This year I am committed to it being different (and because I am a human, I also want to build in more fun, hobbies, non-hospital-related adventures and more singing very badly at my dog). I have big plans and I really hope I can help you either inside The Greenhouse or Evergreen Money Club in 2025!
