I WASN'T TAUGHT ANYTHING ABOUT MONEY. 🥴

Growing up in a very low socio-economic area in Australia, I saw a great deal of what it meant to not have money. 

Alas, I wasn't gifted a trust fund or a silver spoon... and the closest thing I got to financial literacy at school was being taught how to write a cheque (which has honestly been of very little help to me in my adult life). 

Instead, I got taught trigonometry over taxes, Pythagoras theorem instead of the principals of compounding. Calculus over cashflow. 

All in all, the numerical insights I learn't at school did almost nothing to help me be ready for real life (I am awaiting the day when pub trivia asks what number the lotus flower represents in Egyptian numerals and I can proudly write down 1,000 courtesy of  a very informative year 8 maths class).  

I remember thinking to myself, when is any of this actually going to be helpful? Turns out, never. 

What I did learn though, was that I needed to work hard.

I looked up and around me and decided if I too didn't want to live dangerously close to the poverty line, then I needed to work really hard. I assumed working hard = financial freedom. I had three jobs in high school and graduated with $9,000 in the bank. 

THEN I FELL INTO FINANCE 💣

It was never my intention to be a Financial Adviser... but fresh faced and full of naive enthusiasm I landed myself inside one of Australia's largest banks. 

And for the first time I was surrounded by people who knew a lot about money, and they weren't scared to talk about it. I realised that working hard was only half the equation... it's also about what you do with it! 

It was like a secret world opened up for me... 

THINGS STARTED TO CLICK ✨

Having always been a good saver I didn't realise that I wasn't doing enough with my money.

I earned interest and thought I was super clever and on top of everything. I didn't want to invest because I was scared of the money being out of the safety and confines of my bank account... I loved the security and certainty of logging in and knowing it was safe. 

But I didn't understand opportunity cost. I let my need for safety get in the way and in turn, I wasted time and missed opportunities to make my money grow faster. 

Flash forward a decade, and not only had I made serious changes with how I managed my money, I jumped out of my fancy corporate job that saw me flying all over the world delivering presentations to financial advisers (which honestly sounds far more glamorous that it was) to co-found an award winning, B-Corp Financial Advice business that was centred on achieving goals... which sounds like common sense, but was actually a trailblazer in the Australian landscape.

I helped hundreds of young professionals get their money sorted and their goals on track... I had a waitlist that was enviable but also stressful... because I had to turn people away and the people who needed the education and money strategies the most, often couldn't afford the fees to get professional advice.  

SO I MADE A RADICAL DECISION 💕

I sold out of my financial advice business I co-founded, to create affordable, accessible money programs that anyone can do from the comfort of their couch. 

I want to break all the barriers that exist in the money world. I want everyone who has ever felt locked out to feel like the door is firmly open for them to learn. 

Your ability to learn about money shouldn't be based on the lottery of life... so if you didn't learn about money at school, or your parents/careers didn't role model good habits, or you've just felt alone, overwhelmed or in a funk about how to get to the next level with your money, you my friend are welcome here and it's time to get yourself moving forward. x
